When Darkness Falls (Sold)
The reference photo I used for this painting was taken directly into the setting sun, while I was in my kayak. (It almost blinded me!) I was intrigued by rendering the sunlight through the trees. To add drama, I painted the under painting with gold leaf, and sanded off subsequent layers many times. The result is unique and mysterious. Although the sky was red, the next day, we had very rough seas coming home! So much for the sailor's tale! Acrylic and ink on canvas board, framed in a gold frame.
